He who smiles rather than rages is always the stronger.
First part of chapt7 will post some other day
me myself dun remb a thing
Here iswhat we did for the extra lesson
Excuse my spelling errors if any=)
Ok Ya guys ready for some intense bio info???!!!!
I typed this according to textbk pg...
So shd be easilier to follow blah...
* = important
# = not in textbk
// = Read
7.2 textbk pg 128
External features of a typical green leaf
1. Lamina (Leaf blade)
-Large flat surface compared to its vol ~ maximum absorption of light energy
-Large&Thin ~ CO2 to reach inner cells rapidly/enables sunlight to reach all mesophyll cells.
2.Leaf arrangement-Regular pattern ~In pairs opp one another on stem
~Singly in a alternate arrangement
~~This ensures tt leaves are not blocking one another from sunlight
Each leaf recives optimum light.
3.Network of veins
-Carry water&Mineral salts to cells in the lamina
-Carry manufactured food from these leaves cells to other parts of the plant.
4.Petiole (leaf stalk)
-Holds lamina away from stem~Obtain sufficient sunlight&air.
If no petiole leaves have long laminae e.g grasses/maize
----------------------------------------------------------
Textbk pg 129 pls refer to dig in textbk as u read this.
Internal structure of lamina
1.Upper epidermis
-Single layer of closely paacked cells
-It is covered on the outside by a waxy cuticle.(It is coloured Yellow)
-Transparent~Allow Sunlight to penetrate leaf.
Cuticle
-Waterproof prevents excessive evaporatioon (water lost)
# Prevent bacteria from entering
2.Mesophyll ~Palisade and spongy
Palisade
-1/2 layers of closely packed, long and cylinderical cells (see dig.)
-Main site of photosynthesis
(lots of chloroplasts~absorb maximum sunlight for photosynthesis)
Spongy
-Cells are irregular in shape
-Numerous large intercellular air spaces~rapid diffusion of gases thr leaf.
-Have lesser chloroplast compared to palisade mesophyll
-All the cells here are covered with thin film of moisture so tt CO2 can dissolve in it
A solution is needed for chemical reaction.
CO2 dissolve into the moisture before diffusing into the cell
-Xylem & Phloem here !!! (Remb? xylem + phloem = vascular bundle)
*~xylem transport water and mineral salts from the root to the leaves.
*~phloem translocate sucrose and amino acids from leaves to other parts of the plant
{Must write like tt}
3.Lower epidermis
-Beneath mesophyll
-Single layer of closely packed cells+ layer of cuticle
(Thinner than upper epidermis's cuticle due to stomata)
4.Stoma (singular
-Lower epidermis contains many minute openings
-Important in gaseous exchange
-2 guard cells bound a stoma (see dig. bottom of dig.)
//Pls read the table on pg 130 and
The (How guard cells control the size of stomata)
*V important Must know the importance
of tthe opening and closing of stomata.*
Last para of pg 130 and abit on pg 131...xD
Girls and boys pls now turn to pg 132...
The whl pg need @_@ happy reading...
*Pls note tt When asked abt xylem/phloem transport
we must say transport what and from where to where.
Typed for u le...it is highlighted above.
**Para 4 of pg 132 got error...(teach say de)
Last line last word is diffsion not osmosis.
Not really sure myself, wonder if i remb wrongly...)
Double check with teach tml blah ^^
*Then the table on pg 133 is holy~~!!! MUST KNOW!!!
*Boys and girls now jump to chap 9.
Teach only went thhhr pg 172 and 173,
//pls read pg 171 on your own.
I lazy type out...T.T sleepy...
T.T let wo just point out important things k?
9.1 textbk pg 172 *Must know xylem and phloem de functions.
*Esp providing mechanical support from plant*
~Cause of lignified xylem vessel~
Teacher said lots of students forget tt, pls dont.=
Xylem vessel(Made of many dead cells, shd know the reason
= long hollow tube stretching from root to the leaf.
See the dig of vessels at the bottom? Make a guess which strongest?
Its the pits de...Cause the pits are the only parts tt are unlignified (Like cheese)
Pg 173
Phloem-make up of living cells,
consists of mainly sieve(the baking tt one alot of hole de)
tube cells and companion cells (see dig)
From circle thingy to another is one sieve tube cell,
The one beside with a nucleus is the companion cell
The sieve tube cell lost its central vacule &most of its organelles = degenerate protoplasm
Companion cells has lots of mitochondria, provide sieve cells with energy, and nutrients.
Extra bit: How to transfer energy?
"Packed" the energy into moleus, then can "pass" it to the sieve cells,
when unpacked the energy is released.
LOL This is wad i rember. teacher say till v chim but its not important lah.
*Must know how is xylem and phloem adapted to its functions
All written in textbk read urself)*
Now for our holiday homwork...

yoz ppl, haha just got the notice. There should be math olympiad training today but i think many peeps nv go or forget OR like me dont even noe bout it. =p haha. nvm . oh ya 27/5/08 actual math olympiad competition day at 1/2 n 1/3 classroom 9am-12pm. announcement shown on the tv (: bad thing. announcement made thru the assembly is much more better than this tv thingy. argh. mb go bio 1st bah. haha. i nv see this anouncement b4 myself so gotta check it out tmr! get details right. haha. all the best peeps.for tmr MPS (:

Havin' fun yea?
Okay people, i know this may be rather disturbing but i still have the responsibility to remind all of you that SCHOOL IS STARTING TOMORROW~ I know it's kinda spoiler but don't worry, the good news is that timetable has been suspended. geez! Just prepare yourself for HL and Physics. For the benefit of those who didn't check out their mail box or just too busy playing, here's the detail of the e-mail from Mr Low.
Oh ya, here are the pictures for mass run. Heh.
it's all party and let textbooks rot;
Okay, so what's up after exam? Movies, Makan-ing, Online game-ing, Sports-ing and slacking? Haha. Since we're doing all celebrating and relax-ing, why not let's do it together with our dearest classmates? Pick up your phone, call any 3/5dians on your contact list and date them okay! So, there are quite a few plans for post-exam partys and holiday outing.
- Pizza.
- Roller Blading around woodlands.
- Ice skating.
- Basketball.
- Badminton.
- Bowling.
- Swimming.
- Audition.
- BBQ
There are so many things to choose from but yea, if you have any idea, do let the class comm know by next week and we'll see what we can plan. Also, we'll be having a class comm meeting really soon, so please, if there's anything particular in the classroom or about the class you want us to change or take note, do let us know by next week too. We'll try our best to have a better and upgraded classroom environment the next semester. So do let us know your views and be part of the upgrading program.
Bio notes...xDWe're talking about 4/5 here.

Dear all,
Hope you all feel recharged after these many days of rest. Come friday, some administrative things I need to do,
I'll be conducting physics book and file check,
Bring to school
1. All your worksheet, (content page will be updated in class)
2. Workbook (make sure you have done all your corrections for those I went portion I went through)
3. Assignment and speed test (I've given you all solution, self mark and do correction, Speed test solution is on riverside35362008.blogspot.com)
4. TYS (finish the topics that were tested on MYE)
I'll see u all in school.
Take care
